Best Edition Knighthood: A Progression Fantasy (Surgecaller Book 2) with Free PDF EDITION!

I’ll start with the bad /annoying stuff first, to get it out of the way, but the short version is that the MC has a surprising lack of mental fortitude and independence for someone who spent years surviving the “dangerous” wilderness alone for years. Here’s the breakdown of my criticisms:The MC thinks and acts like a poor rendition of Oliver Twist, supernaturally naive and led through the story by the hand. Even when he’s not magically controlled he’s just meekly submitting. He gets physically stronger, but mentally he hasn’t changed at all.That normally would just be annoying, but the constant internal monologue over the same few issues with no end in sight had me skimming a lot.Next and somewhat related, is the MC’s self righteous hypocrisy. He refuses to acknowledge Jacob as his father and then gets upset when Jacob treats him in a way he doesn’t think a father should treat a son. He wants to kill the immortal of fire, knowing full well that the IOF is just as much an innocent slave as he is, and yet he judges his father’s group’s willingness to take “innocent” lives.Last on the bad list, the MC’s defeatism. This one really drives me crazy. He’s weak,so what? He’s literally in training to get stronger, though he doesn’t want to get stronger than his love interest for whatever reason. Every time he gets in a fight, instead of desperately grasping for every option he has available to extend the fight or, heavens forbid, win, he complains about how the other guy is just too strong or skilled, blah blah blah. All the while he loses to a weaker fighters because he hesitates and pulls his punches.Now that we got that out of the way, here’s the good stuff:Good reuse of characters. I was worried some of the characters from the previous book would be left behind. Not only did that not happen, the author off-screened some advancement on their end which makes perfect sense and left me wanting more of them.The magic system is still as interesting as it was in the last book, with a few more twists that make it even better.The plot development is top notch. Stuff is getting serious everywhere with or without the MC’s participation.
